ABOUT ME
You see, all my home chores consisted of tending the garden, raking the leaves, and pruning the overgrowth. My gardening journey began in Valley Center, California where we had a massive amount of land filled with Pomegranate, Apricot, and Apple trees. In addition to grapes, blackberries, raspberries, and all the citrus you can think of. During this time I learned how to care for, pick, and groom these crops out of necessity. I didn't understand the impact it had on me until I’m sitting here writing an about me section to my gardening website. Talk about a full circle moment. The next chapter in my gardening journey touches lineage and the pure fulfillment you can feel when growing. This begins in a three-bedroom apartment in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
Brooklyn. My grandmother had a greener than green thumb and would grow these amazing plants inside of our apartment. Her plants were luscious, full, and abundant in size. I can hear her humming church songs as she gave them water each morning. She would rotate them weekly to make sure that all sides of the plant were getting sunlight from the one prominent window in our living room. I remember her propagating them to create new plants. I had no idea what she was doing at the time but now I can see she was my gardening oracle. It is because of her that I began taking growing seriously for myself years later. I can hear that soft church hymn while I’m in my own garden today. I hope you are inspired to pass down your love of growing to those that may be closest to you, watching you and listening to your soft songs of joyfulness.
